Ileana Citaristi holds a Doctorate in Philosophy and moved to India after years of experience in European theatre. She lives in Orissa and has learnt Odissi from the renowned dancer Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Dr Citaristi is also deeply interested in Chhau, particularly the form of the dance associated with the Mayurbhanj district of Orissa. She travels extensively on lecture tours across India, is an authority on Oriya culture and has written The Making of a Guru, a biography of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. This well known exponent of Odissi has done much to popularize the dance in India and abroad and has performed in major dance festivals in India, Italy, Argentina, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, USA, Australia and Israel. Her dance productions include ‘Jarjara’, ‘Surya Devata’, ‘The Journey’, ‘Pancha Bhuta’, ‘Maya Darpan’ and ‘Echo and Narcissus’.
